FALL FEST 2013 We will be having a fall festival on during the school day for all ages November 7 at the Homestead Campus.  Students will be involved in a stewardship opportunity in the morning and in the afternoon will be participating in some fun fall time activities.  Please check the attached Sign-Up Genius link for more details.  If you have questions or would like to volunteer to help please contact Ms. Rachael at rachael.naylor-tatterson@icademyglobal.org  WWW.SIGNUPGENIUS.COM/GO/10C0F45AAAA2DA5F49-ICADEMY

Additional Internet Filter Information:  Recently some of our families have requested help with applying additional content filters to their students devices and we wanted to share that information with all of our families.  We currently have in place the standard filters that other public schools in the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District utilize.  This filter works to block certain websites however it does not prevent questionable images from familiar websites (yahoo, google, etc).

After speaking with the ISD and conducting some of our own research our recommendation is that students use Google Chrome for their web browser which allows parents to install an additional content filter themselves through this web browser. Google Chrome also supports all of our curriculum providers well. Adding these filters will be in addition to what we currently have in place. Not a replacement.

It should also be noted that the filter has been effective at our Homestead campus, but has not been proven to 100% outside the iCademy Global campus.  We encourage all parents to implement the Chrome browser filters.

Please view the link below for instructions on how to set up the filter. If you experience technical difficulty installing Google Chrome or applying the filters please contact Doran Eichenberg our IT specialist at technology@icademyglobal.org

LEARNING CAFE SETUP – Hopefully your student has told you about a change in our learning cafe setup.  Our content teachers have each set up “class” in a designated area of the learning cafe.  So, there is a math area, social studies area, science area, etc… This change will hopefully help students better manage their time, practice great study skills, and help them to easily find the content specialist they need. For example if your student needs some help in math, Ms. Nan is set up at a table clearly labeled “Math”.

Fall Fest 2013 As part of our Fall Fest activities our 5-8 learners will be participating in a stewardship opportunity by traveling to Community Action House in Holland.  We will be helping them assemble Christmas trees, sort games and fix toys to be distributed during the Christmas season.  Students will leave the Homestead Campus at 9:30 and return around 12:00 in time for lunch. Please be looking for a permission slip to come home with your students on Tuesday and have them bring it with them on Thursday or feel free to print the attached form.  We are still looking for 2-3 parents to drive.  Thanks!   iCademyGlobalpermissionslip
