Heiffer Village
Last week 19 of our middle school students traveled to Howell, MI to participate in the Heiffer Global Village experience. We learned about the daily struggles of the world’s poorest people and discussed third world country issues. Then students were assigned to an impoverished area of the world (Urban Slums, Appalachia, Peru, Thailand) and given supplies and resources that might be available in that area. We then had to make a fire, prepare dinner, and find drinking water. Our students did a great job of trading, collaborating and helping one another out despite their limited resources. Students saw that when working together, everyone had enough. Even on a micro level, this illustrated that there is enough on earth to feed everyone. A special thank you to our two wonderful parent chaperones who went on this trip with us!

Culvers in Holland is participating in a fundraising event for iCademy Global. So, skip the homemade meal and head out to Culver’s Tuesday, November 11th, between 5 and 8 PM. The school will receive 10% of every sale and it will go directly to the outdoor learning environment. What a delicious way to help our school!

Outdoor Learning Environment
Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered their time, effort, and supplies to help us get the outdoor learning environment put together. The students love it and it has already been put to good use. We could not have done it without you!

 November Lunches
Our lunch menu for November is attached below. Take a look at the upcoming meals so your student can decide if he or she would like a hot lunch. Also remember, students must sign up for lunch by 9:30 am each day in order to receive a hot lunch. Any sign-ups after that time will be given the choice of either a chop salad or a cold lunch.

Are you wondering where your students progress should be? Let’s do some quick math. We just completed our 8th week of school.  Students should be doing roughly 5.5% progress in each class each week to stay on track.  So, by the end of this week students should be around 44% progress in each of their classes. This number may flex a little either way  depending on the weight of the assignments for the week. Another way to track progress is to simply look at the due dates.  Every assignment given has a due date, so you can also monitor if your student is on track by looking at the due dates for assignments.  If you have questions about your students progress please contact your students learning coach.

We need a bus driver for our sister school Inno Allegan in Fennville. Please find the posting below by clicking on the link. Feel free to pass this along to any family or friends who might be interested. Thanks!

Pop Can Pick-Up
iCademy Global invites all high-school and middle school students with an opportunity to raise some money towards the Scholarship Fund. We are looking for some parent helpers to accomplish this goal.

The Field Experience Scholarship Fund is to provide an opportunity for students to travel and gain new perspectives in the process. Participation with the popcan pick-up will help and look great in the Scholarship Application process.

Precademy preschool currently has seven free preschool scholarships available at our Homestead location!  The program offers engaging educational experiences for 3 and 4 year old children, as they develop and prepare for Kindergarten.  In order to apply for a scholarship, children must be/have turned 4 years old by October 1st, 2014.
