Currently the governor’s budget proposal is suggesting to reduce funding of cyber charter schools.   Please read below and follow the link to tell legislators not to support cutting of cyber school funding. If this passes our per pupil allocation will be reduced 20%.   A huge number that will not allow us to operate the model in which we have come to believe is best practice.

Forgot Your Infinite Campus Password/Login Info?

We’ve recently added a feature to Infinite Campus allowing parents and students to change their password by having a reset sent to an email account of their choosing.

Upon your next log in into infinite campus you will be prompted to enter an email address.  Simply add the email address you’ve like the password reset sent to and you will be all set.

Fair Trade Market – Volunteers Needed

The dates for the Fair Trade Market have been set for December 8 and 9th. This market is different than the student marketplace taking place in November. Fair Trade Market is where fair trade vendors descend on Homestead Campus for our students, families and community to do some shopping while our students get to learn about what “Fair Trade” is all about. Planning for the event will begin on April 13th from 3:30-5pm in the cafe on campus and volunteers are needed! Please join us to help make this a fantastic event! Questions? More information? Good Sam Run

The Wild Run is a fundraiser for Good Samaritan Ministries, whose mission is to end poverty and homelessness by mobilizing faith-based and community partners, activating individual and community assets, and meeting immediate needs in our community. Most of the families they serve with housing assistance and long-term supports have children in the OAISD. They would like to build awareness as a resource for families that are struggling and are asking for assistance from schools to provide information about their event to get families involved with younger students participating and high school students volunteering.

Book Fair is Almost HERE!

Our Spring Scholastic Book Fair will be here March 27-30.  The fair will be open on Monday for browsing only.  Your students will be coming through with their class to preview and then will return later in the week to make purchases.  Students and families are also welcome to shop Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm (during conferences) and Thursday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.  Online ordering (with free shipping) is available from March 19 to April 1 at http://www.scholastic.com/bf/innocademy.

A special note for our older students and parents:  This time around Scholastic has offered to send more young adult/adult books!!

Aquatic Ecology and Fisheries Science

Entering Grades 9-12

Develop skills in capturing, identifying, and comparing the animal communities, from insects to fish, that live in our local streams, lakes, and rivers.  You will gain experience using basic aquatic ecology research techniques and equipment, including nets, traps, seines, and water quality meters.  Learn the basics of fisheries science: set fyke nets and minnow traps,

practice fish identification, learn to tag fish and predict population

size with faculty from the LSSU Aquatic Research Laboratory.

Biomedical Science

July 16-21, 2017

Entering Grades 9-12

Learn and experiment in the state of the art science labs at LSSU.  Labs will include dissections in the anatomy lab, experiments in the physiology lab, and DNA extraction in the genetics lab. This is an excellent camp for all who are interested in science, medicine, and health.

Careers in Natural Resources

July 30-August 4th, 2017

Entering Grades 9-12

The program explores careers in natural resources enabling campers to work closely with federal and state fisheries and wildlife biologists, wild land managers, park rangers and interpreters. The campers will be in residence at Hunt Creek Field Station, a 3000 acre natural laboratory near Gaylord MI. Activities will include hands-on exploration of a day in the life of real-world natural resources careers, such as habitat assessment, species inventory, soil and water quality, assessment of sustainable human uses of the resource base.

$750; campers will be staying at the LSSU Hunt Creek Field Station, in Gaylord MI.

Confused on Due Dates?

We are hearing that many families are having difficulties seeing what is due on a particular day when using the calendar display. This is because, with an 11:59pm due time, an assignment doesn’t appear on a student’s daily calendar until waaaay after the school day is finished. In order for students to be able to see the assignments on the calendar, earlier, all teachers are now making due dates for submission of assignments to be 3pm instead of 11:59pm. Students will still have until 11:59pm that day to submit an assignment. An assignment will not be marked late if it is received after 3pm, but before 11:59pm on a particular day. Changing the time simply allows it to be seen during the school day.

What Is The Purpose of RE:FUEL?

RE:FUEL was designed to be a place where students can visit each week if they wish…much like a Starbucks or Biggby. The intent is that students can work independently, collaborate with others and socialize with friends. RE:FUEL is not intended to be a tutoring environment for teachers and students. There is never a time where a student HAS to come to RE:FUEL so that they can meet with their teacher. Connecting with teachers will happen through the virtual office. We know, it seems kind of funny, sometimes, to connect in the virtual office while teachers are located in the iCademy office area in the same building. As a virtual school, though, we need to make sure that our teachers are available to ALL of our students, not just those that are able to make it to campus. Teachers enjoy visiting with students on campus, for sure, but also have other students they are conferencing with throughout the day who are not on campus. Please, if you have a question or need to chat with your teachers reach out through the virtual office. They LOVE hearing from you!

Hand 2 Hand Coming to Homestead Campus!

Innocademy and iCademy Global are starting to participate with a program called “Hand2Hand”. This program provides supplemental weekend food and snacks for families. Should you decide to participate, your child will receive a bag full of food items, on Thursdays, that may be eaten over the weekend by your family. There is no cost to participate. Keep in mind this program is intended to come alongside families who could really use the help. If you are not in need of this type of assistance right now please refrain from signing up so we can maximize our resources for those families who would benefit from this. Individual families can decide how long or short a period of time they would like to participate. If you sign up for Hand2Hand, then down the road you no longer need the assistance, simply write a note expressing your desire to discontinue receiving Hand2Hand food bags. You may bring the note right to the front desk or give to the child’s teacher. This opportunity is being provided through the H2H Hope Gathering Area Pantry, Vertical Church, Community Ref Church and Faith Ref Church.


West Michigan College Fair at Devos Place March 28th!

iCademy Global is signed up to visit the College Fair on March 28.  It is at the Devos Place in GR and it is from 10-11:30am.  It is open for 9-12th graders and we can take a maximum of 30 people.  Students will need to organize their own transportation. Please use the sign up genius, below to secure your spot!

Clubs meet each Thursday from 2:30-3pm. The clubs currently offered are: Science Club, DIY  club, video gaming/editing club, yearbook, tech team, stewardship club and cooking club. Scholastic Book Fair – We will be hosting a Spring book fair the week of March 27-30 for all of our Homestead families.  It would be great to have an iCademy parent join the team to help organize, set up, and/or market the book fair, especially to our iCademy students and families.

Innocademy has some existing teams of volunteers to provide for the needs at our Homestead campus.  We would love to add some iCademy parents to these teams so that ALL of our students, parents, and staff are cared for.  It is the heart of iCademy to be more than just academics.  We also value stewardship and a “family-feel” environment.  Let me know if you would be interested in joining any of these teams:

InnoCares – this team provides care for our families who are experiencing a significant life event—birth, death, sickness, etc.

Caring for Teachers – We love our teachers and all they do, and it’s important to regularly show that in tangible ways.  This team finds opportunities to do this through treats, meals, notes, etc. at various times throughout the year.

Stewardship – both Innocademy and iCademy have had some great stewardship events this year.  We would love to have one combined team that can share ideas between schools and combine for certain stewardship events.

News from “Plugged In”…formerly “Devos”

Wow, what a great year morning devotions at pluggedIN have been so far. With our student information system, Infinite Campus, we have the ability for parents/guardians to create a Parent Portal account.  A Parent Portal account allows you to access your child’s information stored in our student information system; it allows you to submit demographic updates (ie., cell phone numbers, email addresses, emergency contact information) and it enables a process for email communication.
