A Reminder About West Parking Lot Traffic…

Unfortunately, there have been many folks trying to exit through the entrance area of the parking lot. This is extremely dangerous! Please, for everyone’s safety, KEEP LEFT and use the entrance for entering and the exit for exiting – – no matter what day or time you are using the parking area. Thank you.

Outdoor Learning Center Update!

Things are moving right along in the east parking lot area! So exciting to see progress! This week we will be pouring surfaces and asphalt and rebuilding the swing set. Students will be using the playground pieces as well as an area in the East parking lot back by the Blue Room as their recess spaces this week. Please look for a call for volunteers, soon.

Girls Running Club at Homestead Campus

Welcome to a new year and a new feel to our girls running club. At our IES schools we spend a lot of time working with our kids on 7 healthy habits. This year our running club will take this one step further and help our girls in grade 3rd-6th develop healthy habits in their relationships, personal self and the community around them. The plans are still being finalized but here is some good information to start thinking about 

  1. We plan to begin meeting in early to mid-February for about 10-12 weeks. We look to meet twice a week after school for about 1.5 hours
  2. The cost we are hoping to keep at about $50.00 per student. This will include all materials (maybe even a fun book study), a 5K race in May (hosted by our sister school Innocademy Allegan) and a shirt.

As we travel down this new running path with volunteers of teachers and parents please know we are super excited to work with your girls and are working hard to get all the planning and details ironed out and will share them once we return from our Thanksgiving break. MarketPlace will be open Homestead Families and the general public to shop this week.

Shopping times will be…

  • 10am – 4pm –  Wednesday, November 8th
  • 8am – 8:30pm – Thursday, November 9th – Be sure to shop before/after parent meeting!
  • 8:30am – 1:15pm – Friday, November 10th – FRUGAL FRIDAY – Remaining items 1/2 off if a seller chooses to participate.

Message from Michigan Department of Education

The opinion of parents and caregivers of school-aged children matters when it comes to reporting on how well schools serve Michigan’s children.

The Michigan Department of Education is inviting feedback from that group on Michigan’s new, online  “school transparency dashboard.” The dashboard is designed to show the performance of every public school in Michigan, including public school academies (charter schools).

The new dashboard is designed especially for parents and other caregivers. It will report on more than 20 different factors—or measures—that parents and other stakeholders have said are important to them when evaluating the quality of a school. The survey allows participants to view components of the new dashboard, then answer questions about the way information is presented, the usefulness of certain features, and unique interests.

  • Survey details:
    • You can complete the survey on any computer, tablet, or mobile device.
    • The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.
    • All answers will be confidential.
    • Survey must be completed by November 15, 2017.

You have heard of Scrip over the last little bit.  You may know it is an ongoing fundraiser where you order gift cards to all your favorite stores to be used on future purchases.  You order it for $25, get a $25 card and also earn a small amount, 2-15%, towards your kiddos’ field trip accounts.  What you may not realize is how beneficial this opportunity is for you and your family.  We compared Scrip to our most popular fundraiser, our sub and pizza sale in the spring.  Here are the numbers:

Weather Delays/Closed Campus

When Mother Nature decides to make travel to campus dangerous we may find it necessary to cancel or delay on site options for that day. We determine morning cancellations based on Zeeland Public Schools; If they are closed due to weather, our campus will be closed. If they delay due to weather, we will delay. GREAT news, though! Since we are an online school, students can continue their learning at home for any days where we experience a delay or closing of campus. All due dates are still in effect. If campus is closed, we will notify you by the following methods:

  • WZZM 13
  • WOOD-TV8

In the event of a 2 hour delay, campus will be open at 11am. On these days, there will only be a HOT lunch choice for the day as Ms. Rosie won’t have time to prepare both choices..

Everyone, Please Read – Free/Reduced Lunch Applications. 

Each year iCademy Global receives additional funding based on our family population that may qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch. Seems funny for an online school, I know, but it’s the truth! This additional funding works out to be a HUGE budget line item for us. 

We are in danger of foregoing some funding this year simply because we have fewer families that have filled out the application. EEEK!! 

We need your help! Even if you think you won’t qualify, or your kiddos might never even take hot lunch, PLEASE take a moment and fill out the CONFIDENTIAL online form.  Every little bit helps our schools!   Just go to lunchapp.com….search for our school through Holland Christian (they are our hot lunch provider).

You will be notified if you qualify and you can then decide if you would like to participate if/when your students are ever on campus.
