iCademy Globetrotters Robotics News!

The iCademy Globetrotters robotics team has been working tirelessly this year to design, build, and program a competitive robot for this year’s FIRST Robotics competition. The team has been working since the beginning of January to get themselves ready and putting in countless hours to get the job done.

The time is finally here to show off what they can do with their completed robot! The team will be travelling to St. Joseph High School this Thursday evening to participate in their first qualifying meet. They will compete with around 40 other teams from all over the state and even the country during a grueling meet that will last until Saturday evening. If you would like to cheer the team on in person or online you can find more information at www.team5927.com and you can follow the team on Instagram and Facebook @icademyrobotics. If you are curious about the FIRST Robotics Competition program and what our students are learning, you can find more at www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc

The Globetrotters will also be competing at GVSU’s fieldhouse on March 23rd and 24th and would love the support of their community.

Thanks, and go Globetrotters!

A Day In The Life with Paige…

Weekly Update Writing: Live Lessons

Hi everyone! I decided that for my weekly update writing this week I would write about live lessons. Live lessons occur every school week on Monday and Wednesday. Each live lesson is around forty-five minutes long. During this time, you are able to get the work for that subject done for the day. This could be an exam, a lesson, etc. This is also a great time to ask your teachers any questions you may have and to get help on anything you are struggling with. For example, if you are on a test or exam during live lesson, you are able to quickly get help with what you are stuck on. In a situation like this, live lessons are one of the most efficient ways to communicate with your teachers. As long as you are able to complete everything that is due during your live lesson, you are done with that subject for the day! There are no live lessons for your electives.  Thank you for reading, and I hope everyone has a great rest of their week!

Meet Officer Huizenga…

Officer Ryan Huizenga has been our police liaison over the course of the past two years. Along with helping us with safety drills, Officer Huizenga often stops in just to see how things are going and say “hello”. Make sure to stop and introduce yourself if you see him on campus!

Volunteers Needed!

Hello Parents!
We have some wonderful volunteer opportunities that we want to share with you!
If any of these sound like something  that you would like to help with just send Ms. Deedee an email at deedee.defrell@icademyglobal.org and let me know.
Thanks for Considering!
  1. Barton Tutors: We are working to be able to screen our students at Innocademy and iCademy Global for their strengths in phonemic awareness. These are the fundamentals of reading. We are finding students who are in  need of some support beyond what can be offered each day on the classroom.
We have the resources – Barton Intervention is a complete, research based program proven to strengthen these foundations!
We have the FREE training!
WE NEED YOU!
SO excited to be able to offer a Barton Intervention Tutor Training for anyone interested in helping our students achieve their learning goals! Absolutely no experience necessary!
  1. Copying Barton tutoring materials: Come on in and enjoy a coffee from Re-Fuel while making some copies!

Hot Lunch Payments

Just a reminder that hot lunch is a prepay program.  All Child Nutrition Programs are set up that money needs to be in the lunch account for a child to receive hot lunch.  Please keep your child’s account current. You may drop off a check at the front desk or go to sendmoneytoschool.com  to submit a payment – there is a transaction charge to pay online.  Thank you!

One never knows when a family may get hit with a financial challenge.  Lunch benefits are always available year round…. you may apply at lunchapp.com and fill out a confidential application. Any questions, please email Sue at slambers@hollandchristian.org.   If your family currently has a negative balance, if you apply for lunch benefits and qualify we will wipe out your negative balance.

Norovirus Awareness

The Ottawa County Health Department announced an upswing in the number of people experiencing norovirus and norovirus-like symptoms, otherwise known as the stomach bug.

This poster shows different steps that can protect people, especially those who live in nursing homes, from norovirus.

Weather Delays/Closed Campus

When Mother Nature decides to make travel to campus dangerous we may find it necessary to cancel or delay on site options for that day. We determine morning cancellations based on Zeeland Public Schools; If they are closed due to weather, our campus will be closed. If they delay due to weather, we will delay. GREAT news, though! Since we are an online school, students can continue their learning at home for any days where we experience a delay or closing of campus. All due dates are still in effect. If campus is closed, we will notify you by the following methods:

  • Email to parents
  • Facebook post
  • WZZM 13
  • WOOD-TV8
  • iCademy group text message through Rained Out (sign up for this service by texing “icademy” to 84483. You will receive a message back saying you are signed up. Please contact Leisa if you have trouble leisa.lobbezoo@innocademy.com)

In the event of a 2 hour delay, campus will be open at 11am. On these days, there will only be a HOT lunch choice for the day as Ms. Rosie won’t have time to prepare both choices..

Have You Accessed Your Parent/Observer Account?

Each parent/guardian should have a parent/observer account associated with your student. If you do not have one, please email Deedee at deedee.defrell@icademyglobal.org so that she can set one up for you. If you aren’t sure, simply go to this link:  https://icademy.ems.connexus.com/ and enter your firstname.lastname as the username and password will be #iCademy17.

Why Do You Need A Parent/Observer Account?

This is the primary way that your child’s teacher will communicate with you and makes it easy for you to connect with them on questions. It’s also the place you will look for general communications from your grade teams. This account also helps you clearly see what your student needs to do and has already completed. If you have questions, please contact your child’s mentor or teacher.
