Hot Lunch Payments

Just a reminder that hot lunch is a prepay program.  All Child Nutrition Programs are set up that money needs to be in the lunch account for a child to receive hot lunch.  Please keep your child’s account current. You may drop off a check at the front desk or go to sendmoneytoschool.com  to submit a payment – there is a transaction charge to pay online.  Thank you!

One never knows when a family may get hit with a financial challenge.  Lunch benefits are always available year round…. you may apply at lunchapp.com and fill out a confidential application. Any questions, please email Sue at slambers@hollandchristian.org.   If your family currently has a negative balance, if you apply for lunch benefits and qualify we will wipe out your negative balance.

Weekly Update: Tech-Free Brain Breaks by Paige

Hi everyone. For this week’s weekly update writing I will be talking about tech free brain breaks, and why they are important in a virtual school. Tech free brain breaks are very important. They help you unplug and relax. This is great, especially because at a virtual school you are looking at a screen for a good part of your day. They also help lower stress and anxiety. Some great tech free brain breaks include reading a book, writing, playing outside, getting a quick drink or snack, and more. It is good to take small brain breaks, making them only 1-5 minutes instead of 30-60. But, take them often throughout the day. These brain breaks also help you to refocus. For example, if you are stuck on a question for a test and just can’t figure it out, take a quick break. When you are done, you should feel refocused and better prepared to finish the test. I hope everyone that reads this will try taking a tech-free brain break next time they need a break. Thank you everyone for reading and have a great day! – Paige

Club Survey – 6th – 12th Grade Students

Our students are so excited to think through what clubs look like at iCademy and how to do them virtually for all of our learners. We have been brainstorming ideas and below is a link for your kiddo to cast their votes on what clubs they would want to participate in during second semester. Please have them fill this out so we can keep on brainstorming together! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NNXCF2F

Join The Innocademy/iCademyHealth Advisory Board!

he Innocademy/iCademy Global Health Advisory Board is planning on having the first meeting of the year on Monday January 29th from 4:30-5:30. If you are interested in attending and/or joining the board, please send an email to katie.wilson@innocademy.com with your name!

We will plan on meeting in the circle room on top of the stairs. If you have any questions feel free to send them my way! Thanks and hope to see you there!

Katie Wilson

What IS The Health Advisory Board, Anyway?

Our Health Advisory Board is designed to create a comprehensive scope and sequence for health and wellness for students K-12. The primary focus is on reproductive health. Once resources have been vetted and the scope and sequence for each grade level is designed, it will be presented to our school boards at Innocademy and iCademy for approval. After approval, the curriculum will be implemented by teachers at the appropriate and recommended grade levels.

Two years ago our boards all voted to proceed with an “abstinence based” curriculum. Currently, the only curriculum approved by the boards and taught each year is one HIV/AIDS lesson that is required by the State of Michigan for students in 5th-12th grades.

Total Trek Quest – Registration OPEN!

TTQ Registration is going ONLINE! Parents, starting January 2 you can register for the Total Trek Quest program ONLINE by clicking the link HERE. This new partnership will allow us to respond faster to your registration questions, will reduce the time it takes to have your son listed on the roster and will give prompt updates on wait lists. We do our very best to keep registration costs low, but in order to accommodate this change and to ensure we are still able to give out scholarships to all who need it, we will be raising the Total Trek Quest Registration fee to $45. You can still stop in to our offices to register your son, as we are working on ensuring kiosk style access to RacePlanner. Look for our info sheets to come home-and if you have any questions, please email Brandon at bmelnyk@arborcircle.org

Job Opportunity!

Innocademy-Homestead Campus has a great “hot lunch” opportunity for someone who wants to work around their student’s schedule.  This position is Tuesday through Friday from 10:00-2:30pm.  Innocademy Homestead food service is under the Holland Christian food service Child Nutrition Program and compensation would be through Holland Christian.  You would co-work with another team member preparing and serving hot lunch. Please contact Nancy at nmccarthy@hollandchristian.org if you are interested.

Part Time Help Wanted!

Do you have a teenager looking for a part time job working with kids?  If so, we have a position available that could be a great fit.  We are looking for an Afterschool Enrichment Helper.  This person would assist the Afterschool Enrichment Coordinator in implementing the lesson plans for that day, supervising kids, helping with snack time, and cleaning up at the end of the day.  Hours are 3:30 – 5:30 pm for 2-3 days per week.  Must be 15 to apply.  If you are interested, please email sara.vereeke@innocademy.com

Weather Delays/Closed Campus

When Mother Nature decides to make travel to campus dangerous we may find it necessary to cancel or delay on site options for that day. We determine morning cancellations based on Zeeland Public Schools; If they are closed due to weather, our campus will be closed. If they delay due to weather, we will delay. GREAT news, though! Since we are an online school, students can continue their learning at home for any days where we experience a delay or closing of campus. All due dates are still in effect. If campus is closed, we will notify you by the following methods:

  • Email to parents
  • Facebook post
  • WZZM 13
  • WOOD-TV8
  • iCademy group text message through Rained Out (sign up for this service by texing “icademy” to 84483. You will receive a message back saying you are signed up. Please contact Leisa if you have trouble leisa.lobbezoo@innocademy.com)

In the event of a 2 hour delay, campus will be open at 11am. On these days, there will only be a HOT lunch choice for the day as Ms. Rosie won’t have time to prepare both choices..

Have You Accessed Your Parent/Observer Account?

Each parent/guardian should have a parent/observer account associated with your student. If you do not have one, please email Deedee at deedee.defrell@icademyglobal.org so that she can set one up for you. If you aren’t sure, simply go to this link:  https://icademy.ems.connexus.com/ and enter your firstname.lastname as the username and password will be #iCademy17.

Why Do You Need A Parent/Observer Account?

This is the primary way that your child’s teacher will communicate with you and makes it easy for you to connect with them on questions. It’s also the place you will look for general communications from your grade teams. This account also helps you clearly see what your student needs to do and has already completed. If you have questions, please contact your child’s mentor or teacher.
